I love this way of thinking and I always try to apply it. In doing so, I have noticed that I tend to accumulate for around 3 months, then totally rid my life of anything unnecessary. I have done this all my life but just realized it a few years ago, also during a move, at which point I decided to really restrict certain things I buy in excess (chapstick/gloss, cat toys, etc)

You’ve inspired me to clean today and that’s not easy…so thank you! hehe

Bunmi, at the risk of sounding like a stalker I was looking for people online I remember from my days in Fullerton and thought of you. I came across your blog and see you have had another baby. Hi Kelly. Thanks for commenting! Yes, the adults of the home have limits too although they’re not all quantified. It helps my 3 year-old to have a specific number so that she can actually take control, count, and make choices for herself. We might get to the point where I say I only want to own 8 skirts..it’s possible, I love this system. For now I just make sure everything I own is something I adore, find useful, and isn’t just taking up space.

Hi, I just found your blog via Michelle O-G’s facebook link. I’m curious whether you have a number of things that you’re allowed, and if so, what kinds of things you chose. What kinds of things are exempt (dishes, cutlery, etc)? I am a master purger of clutter and still feel that I have too much, and I’m both intrigued by the idea of a set number and interested in how you navigate this for the adults in your household.

This year I made most of the gifts I gave and I felt more connected to my joy than in any holiday in the past. My children also were able to watch me create the gifts and they too felt connected to it all. In fact, when given the chance to buy anything she wanted at her schools fairy market (parents donate handmade gifts and children are able to buy what they want for each family member) my daughter bought my son one of the handmade gifts I had made, mostly because she knows how much I enjoyed making it.
I love this article Bunmi and I think I may adopt your idea of letting them choose a toy to gift a friend in the community:)
